According to the World Health Organization, complications during pregnancy and child birth are the leading causes of death and disability among women of reproductive age in developing countries.
These can be reduced if more women regularly visit health facilities for antenatal care and delivery.
Joyce Nartey, a teacher by profession and 37 weeks pregnant emphasized the importance of regularly attending antenatal clinic from the onset of pregnancy. For her, this is one of the surest ways to ensure safe delivery.
“I started visiting the hospital right from the time I suspected I was pregnant. I did a scan to make sure the pregnancy is in the right place. I take the advice that the nurses give me which includes eating well, taking in plenty fruits and eating of vegetables and taking my drugs prescribed by my health worker.” – Joyce Nortey, Tema Polyclinic
She advises all pregnant women to emulate her example
