Family Planning services include methods and practices to space births, limit family size and prevent unintended pregnancies; pregnancy by choice and not by chance is a basic requirement for women’s health.

Family planning is a major component of reproductive health, one of the pillars of safe motherhood.

It also reduces the number of unintended pregnancies, number of unsafe abortions, and the risk of complications in pregnancy.

Family planning improves the quality of life, not only for the woman but also for the family as a whole, particularly children.

The quality of childcare invariably rises, as parents are able to invest more of their time, energy and money in bringing up a small number of children.

In Ghana, all individuals of reproductive age and couples including adolescents are eligible for family planning services

For couples, consent of partner for contraceptive use is not required. Individuals with mental disabilities are also eligible for family planning services in consultations with all relevant parties and persons.
