Maternal and child health is the package of services provided for women from the period of pregnancy through childbirth until the child is five years.

It is important for a woman to visit a midwife or doctor as soon as she realizes that she is pregnant and also to follow the visit schedule given her at the antenatal clinic.

The services at the antenatal clinic will help the woman to be protected from illnesses and conditions that can affect her and the unborn baby.

The pregnant woman will also receive information on how to cope with the discomforts of pregnancy, how to prepare for delivery and how to detect any problem and what action to take if need be.

Women are encouraged to have a family member or friend accompany them to the health facility, especially when they are going to give birth.

The parents if possible should perform the following activities immediately after delivery.
